EMDR is an incredibly effective type of therapy which was developed in the late 80s by American psychologist Francine Shapiro. This therapy is most commonly used to address symptoms of trauma/PTSD, but is also known to be very successful with more common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem and grief (this list is by no means exhaustive).
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movement or tapping) to process difficult memories, so that they can be ‘stored’ correctly in the brain. As a consequence, the impact that the memories have on our lives is significantly reduced and we are able to gain new, helpful perspectives, enabling change.
We can provide EMDR face to face or via remote video sessions.
